When the rainwater overflows the sewer from the drains on the street, the water backs up and channel back into the drainpipes of the home. One of the resultant effects of this is basement flooding. The standpipe is a wide diameter pipe that is placed inside the flood drain. Should there be excess water from the drains on the street; the standpipe will prevent the water from backing up into the basement.

Another solution is the use of a drain plug. Once the water pressure is in excess, the plug pops open thus preventing the floor from cracking. A check valve is a great way if preventing basement flooding as well. This can be installed on the underground drainpipe that is attached to the basement drain. Preventing basement flooding is one of the best ways to protect your home from water damage.
